Resonance

For those who are adept in sensing it, Ran's and Verthandi's resonance is one of a Persona that concentrates on magical abilities, with an affinity for the Wind element. Verthandi herself gives off a quiet hum like that of an electric fan laid over the constant, slow ticking of a clock. As she requires an Evoker to summon her Persona, her own resonance is quite weak.

Ran isn't terribly talented at reading resonance: she recognizes those of her closest friends (Shinjiro, Mitsuru, Akihiko) most easily, followed by those of her sisters (Hinata and Kanon). She needs to spend a great deal of time around a person with an awakened Persona to become aware of their 'frequency', but afterwards she knows when the person is close by. She can't read specializations, or elements, however - only physical proximity, though highly emotional Persona-Users's resonance may give her an idea of their mood.

Notable Social Links

Friends and Relations

  • Hinata Itoh - Little Sister. Star Hinata is an endless source of enthusiasm and pride. Ran has always tried very hard to be a good influence on her and to be someone that Hinata can look up to. They're very close.
  • Kanon Itoh - Big Sister. Judgement Although Ran and Hinata only recently learned they have an elder sister due to Convoluted Reasons (thanks Mom), they think Kanon is super awesome cool and welcomed her into their home and lives. Kanon gave Ran her (first?!) tattoo, and now Ran wants to go back for more.
  • Shinjiro Aragaki - The Boyfriend. Hierophant Although their relationship got off to a rocky start back in Ran's second year of high school, she was quickly won over by his charm and confidence. After the Incident on Shirakawa Boulevard, he disappeared; when Shinji started coming around again, Ran found that her feelings for him hadn't changed. After some recent 'help' from the TV World, they've managed to get past the stumbling blocks holding them back and are now going steady.
  • Akatsuki Enda - Shiny Senior. Emperor Recently transferred to Gekkoukan after a stay in the US, Ran finds Akatsuki easy to talk to, but thinks he's a little weird for being so perfect.
  • Mitsuru Kirijo - BFFs. Empress Mitsuru has a lot of her shoulders and a lot on her mind. Ran is always willing to lend her an ear, and likes styling Mitsuru's gorgeous red hair. Mitsuru actually trusts her to do this, and Ran hasn't disappointed her yet.
  • Akihiko Sanada - BFFs. Emperor Akihiko is easy to talk to, and once told her that he considers her a sister. Ran returns those feelings - Akihiko is the brother she never had.
  • Itsuka Mizuhara - Itsy. Devil Itsuka's dedication to Shinjiro quickly won Ran over, and her fondness for the girl has only increased since Itsuka came into the TV world not just to save him, but Ran as well.
  • Shiki Ichimonji - Shikkun. Magician Shounen manga author and first-year Gekkoukan student, he's dating Itsuka and once came to ask Ran for advice about 'how I shot first date?' He did great! Shiki also came to the TV world to rescue her and Shinjiro. The secrets he learned about his senpais were hard on him, but his determination to save them from themselves carried him through.
  • Thora Kobayashi - Oni-chan. Tower Being a half herself, Ran is sensitive to Thora's uncertainties and resentment regarding how society has treated her. She helped rescue Thora from the TV World in Inaba and saw her Shadow, and maybe because of this Ran is extra-kind to her. She calls her 'Thora-chan', which seems to confuse Thora somewhat. Thora came along to the TV world as part of both Ran and Shinjiro's rescue parties, and her unfaltering strength and survival instinct played a vital role in the rescue.
  • Tohru Adachi - Adachi-san. Fool At first Ran regarded him as a nice, cheerful (if Fumbly) adult, until a talk with Shinjiro revealed that Adachi had told him some things that Ran had asked him to keep in confidence. Now that she's aware of just how impenetrable his Fumbles mask is, Ran is a little wary of him. His efforts in Shinjiro's TV dungeon notwithstanding, she has little reason to trust him as much as she once did.
  • Enoha Koinose - Enoha-san. Strength A mild-mannered and friendly bookstore clerk, Enoha shares a big-sister relation with Shinjiro. Ran is touched by her concern and admires Enoha's quiet strength.
  • Naomi Suzuno - Shinji's Ojou-san! Temperance Naomi Suzuno Spencer and her father Miles host a lavish Christmas ball every year to raise money for underprivileged children and orphans. Ran was able to go to the most recent one, not knowing that Shinji had already made acquaintances with the beautiful hostess. Naomi seems like a princess to Ran, and the two hit it off rather well even though they didn't mingle together for very long - Naomi was very busy with her hostess duties. Ran also thinks Miles is SUPER AWESOME for using a Kermit puppet to help give his speech.

Enemies and Those Other Guys

  • Takaya Sakaki - Creepy Jesus. Wheel of Fortune Ran hates Takaya. She hates him first of all because he's the leader of Strega and they want to end the world. She hates him second because he shoved her into a television and told Shinjiro that he'd go in too and finish her off of Shinji didn't follow her in instead of getting help. She also hates him because he shot her once. Oddly enough, it was Ran saying 'please' that caused Sakaki to give up information on a SEES mission.
  • Nagisa Renge - Sick Girl. Judgement Nagisa's sickly appearance doesn't stop her from being a real terror with her knives. While the girl isn't always outwardly hostile, it was her idea to chuck Ran and Shinji into a TV in the first place.
