A modest young man with an unusual name, Akira Ookuma is to most people a polite and unassuming individual. Though unobtrusive, he has a peculiar sort of charm that makes him easy to associate with if not difficult to remember. This entertaining yet modest way about him is only mildly detracted by some unusual behavior; Akira frequently washes his hands and often avoids physical contact with others. He also has a difficult time holding down a job for reasons that seem like little more than coincidence or bad luck. Forced to run the occasional odd job for Omoikane Investigations in Okina, Akira's true home is in Sumaru, a city he holds an unusual fondness for. But by all accounts, he's just a young man with an odd name trying to get by like everyone else.

There he festered, breeding children to in turn sow seeds of chaos, to spurn and destroy -- to kill.
SENSE: The faintest feeling of trepidation, like being anxious about an upcoming event, or a fear of the unknown. The eerie feel of misfortune approaching, like a storm rolling in on a beautiful sunny day. Like a brush causing goosebumps, hair standing on end.

- Akira Ookuma's kanji run like this: Akira (士) Ookuma (大熊). The former translates to 'gentleman,' and the latter to 'large bear.'
- Put that together and you can see why there are so many bear jokes.
- The name was given to him by Daisuke Itami, largely as a joke. His original name? Heiji Yamada.
- Akira has an aversion to blood; he hates getting it on himself.
- He never finished high school, dropping out due to an increase in apathy and the routine fights he was getting into.
