Profile

Kasumi is a first year at Gekkoukan High School. She is pretty quiet and reserved most of the time. Lately though, she has been trying to socialize more, especially with starting at a new school. Her father owns a bookstore in Port Island and Kasumi spends the majority of her time there, either helping her father or just reading or writing. People are generally friendly to her but she tends to close up if people try to get too close. She has a good reason for this though. The secrets and tragedies she holds in her heart leave many people wondering exactly what is going on in her mind.

History

Kasumi is the daughter of Port Island bookstore owner, Fumihiko. She has lived with just her father for most of her life. Growing up she was an extremely social and happy child. Her talents as a writer were recognized even at a young age. However, when she was 8 years old, she witnessed a horrible crime. It caused her to withdraw and she was afraid to talk to other people. For awhile, she did not actually remember what she saw but when she was 13 she had a flashback to the incident. She remembered everything that she saw. Feeling extremely guilty about it she retreated even further into her reading and writing. Now it is 3 years later. Kasumi is about to start as a first-year at Gekkoukan High School. She is trying to get to know others and leave her comfort zone. However, her greatest underlying fear is that people will somehow find out about her past. The secret that she holds is even hidden from her own family and her father even. She hates hiding the truth but she cannot bear to see what would happen if he found out. Therefore, even though she may seem like she is sociable on the outside, she has a secret that is keeping her from really letting others see who she is.

Personality

Kasumi is fairly awkward in social situations until she gets to know the person better. There have been instances, especially recently, where socializing hasn't been as hard for her but generally it is. The fear of people getting too close is always in her mind no matter what. Her love of writing and reading keeps her occupied a lot of the time at the bookstore. She has started reading about the occult lately to get more information for her writing. She has recently come across a forum online. It is a bit 'darker' and filled with rumors and such but it really interests her. Even though most of the stuff seems to be completely false she wonders about the validity of certain things.

Persona

"I am thou, thou art I..." Once awakened, Kasumi's persona will be Marlinchen. Marlinchen is a beautiful woman. She is wearing a beautiful long white dress. Around her head is a flower headband and she is wearing red shoes. She has pale skin. Marlinchen comes from the story of the Juniper Tree. The story goes that a woman wanted a child as red as blood and as white as snow. She finally gives birth to a boy and dies shortly after his birth. The father remarries and they have a child together and name her Marlinchen (some versions call her Marjory). The mother loves her daughter dearly but does not want the son to get the family fortune. She kills him and makes Marlinchen think that it is her fault. Through a twisted series of events the stepmother is killed and the son is 'rebirthed.'

They had a very intriguing conversation about the occult. She is someone that Kasumi would like to talk in more depth too. She felt bad though that she had nothing in return for him. It seems like no matter where she goes, he is there also. Kind of weird but nice at the same time. XII - THE HANGED MAN: XIII - DEATH: XIV- TEMPERANCE: Hitoshi Taniguchi: After a brief encounter at the Strip Mall, Kasumi found she has a couple of things in common with Hitoshi, books and writing. XV - THE DEVIL: XVI - THE TOWER: Himeru Namikawa: A third-year Gekkoukan student that Kasumi has talked to a couple times. She was at her birthday party. Himeru calls her kōhai. Kasumi doesn't mind her too much except she is very quick to correct someone else. She seems a lot older than she actually is when she talks. XVII - THE STAR: XVIII - THE MOON: Keitaro Nagasaku: So far he is the only other first year Gekkoukan student Kasumi has met. They have been in a few social settings together and Kasumi has formed a pretty good relationship with him. One night she opened up to him by showing him a picture of her family before the tragedy. Their relationship got a better because of this. XIX -THE SUN: XX - JUDGEMENT: Kanon Itoh: While Kanon is older than Kasumi she still likes her, especially her tattoos. Kasumi invited her to her birthday celebration even though they had only met one time previously.
