"Um... have we met somewhere?... It's just that I felt we have."

PersonaMUSH combines the characters, settings, and storylines of the games - an other sources - all together. As opposed to literal cutting and pasting, there are a number of changes across the board to enable the settings to play nicely with one another.

The following explains these specific changes. If you are uncertain on any point, feel free to ask staff about the point of contention.

Setting Changes

  • We are using in part the original localization for the setting of the Persona 1 area, which is called Lunarvale here. It is imagined as a city close to a American military base which has seen some peculiar westernizations, such as the popularization of English nicknames, due to the influence of the base and the officers stationed there. The alternate city created by the DVA system is known by the city's original name of Mikage-cho.
  • Mt. Katatsumuri is called Mt. Mifune here; Katatsumuri is a popular local nickname for the mountain.
  • Both demons and Shadows exist on the MUSH, though they are typically found in specific areas. See Shadows and Demons for details. Demon Summoners do not exist on the MUSH and cannot be apped for.
  • The MUSH is running on the Innocent Sin end of the Persona 2 continuity, though aspects from Eternal Punishment, such as the New World Order, have been integrated. Other specific elements such as kegare, the Joker Curse, and Black Joker have not yet seen play.
  • Aside from the integration of a single character (Ryou Kanzato), Trinity Soul is not canon for PersonaMUSH.
  • All Persona-users may enter the Velvet Room of their own free will, a major difference from Persona 3 and 4. Igor will perform the usual services for any Persona-user (see Velvet Room for details), but he still only calls specific individuals for one-on-one meetings.
  • Little stops the characters of different games from playing in any of the major game settings, or even with one another from different games. Tatsumi Port Island and Lunarvale are part of Sumaru City, and Inaba and Okina City aren't more than a train ride away. For more information, see Locations.
  • The odd things that happen in one place can be experienced by people outside of the setting. For example, any Persona wielder or Shadow-Possessed from any game or city can experience the Dark Hour in Tatsumi-shi, Okina City, or Yumezaki Ward; enter the TV world; visit Mikage-cho; or witness the effects of rumors all across Sumaru.
  • Characters can use their Personae anywhere, even in broad daylight. It is strongly advised that you do not do this where regular people may be able to see it (or get caught up in it).
  • Aside from those listed in the Minor Arcana (Cup, Rod, Sword, Coin), the "general" Personae are unlocked through accumulating enough Social Link points from characters of that Arcana. Think of it as P3 and P4, except every Persona of an Arcana is S.Link locked.
  • Unlike Persona 3 and 4, you are not restricted to one person with which to collect Social Links (See Social Links). Any character of the same Arcana will contribute to that same Social Link count. For example, both Junpei and Yosuke can both contribute to one's Magician Social Link count.

Plot Changes

  • Persona 3 and 4 are not fixed to the one year deadline as in their respective games. Minato has more than one year to prevent the Fall, for example, and Yu will essentially be living with his uncle indefinitely, with more than enough time to track down and find the TV Killer.
  • The Persona 1 plot has run its course on the MUSH. Mikage-cho, the mirror of Lunarvale, continues to exist even without the DVA system's direct feedback.
  • The Answer, as a plot, has not actually happened on the MUSH--however, a modified version of one of its setting elements, the Abyss, was the centerpiece of a few events, and remains in the basement of the Tartarus. Players may face their regrets within the Abyss, and choose to see a variant outcome of their past decision. See Abyss for more information.
  • The Innocent Sin plotline has run its course without the conclusion at the end of that game taking place. As such, certain characters are still alive contrary to how events played out in that game. Elements of Eternal Punishment not already integrated are expected to see play, but in naturally a different manner than in canon.

Time

  • The date is a little bit different on PersonaMUSH, due to when the game ICly started and other time adjustments over the years. +date will always give you today's IC date.
  • Additionally, all games are considered to have 'started' when the MUSH opened on IC April 2009, with the age of the FCs being adjusted accordingly. For example, Naoya Toudou was 17 when the MUSH opened despite the fact that his game canonically takes place in 1996.
  • Characters age with the passing of time.

The Living and the Dead

  • Tomomi Fujimori, Kumi Hirose, Michiko Matsudaira and Yuriko Yamamoto are not captive spirits of the Snow Queen Mask on the MUSH; they are instead Shadow-Possessed characters who may be apped for.
  • Takahisa Kandori has died on this MUSH with the culmination of the Persona 1 story arc.
  • Shuji Ikutsuki and Takeharu Kirijo have died on the MUSH and may not be apped.

Combat

  • All characters have exactly one weapon type, unlike in the first Persona game where everyone had a melee weapon and a firearm.
  • Statistics follow Persona 3 and 4 names, but functionally work like both of the Persona 2 games where your statistics are averaged between your Self and your current Persona's statlines.
  • Everyone has a unique special attack like in Persona 4. Unlike Persona 4, these can be triggered whenever you have enough points in your EX Meter (see +help +ex)
  • The elements used in the combat system mostly draw from the Persona 2 games instead of the streamlined ones seen in 3 and 4. See Elements for details.
  • The combat system itself is modified for a MUSH environment, and has drawn some inspiration, particularly for the EX Meter, from Persona 4 Arena.
