Reversal

I figured people might like to read the reasoning behind Yuuka's reversal, so ... here it is. :)

Yes, Yuuka reversed. The High Priestess card is all about secret knowledge, instincts, even magic. The lady guarding the ancient library. Hers is a card about personal and individual journeys across dark deserts to enlightenment. The opposite of the card is all about not knowing what's going on, not having the instincts that lead to her power. Her journey, her enlightenment, taken from her grasp. My favorite site to explain this is: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/learn/reversals/high_priestess.shtml (love it.)

There are several parts to the opposite reversal. In Yuuka's case, the most clear parts to the reversal is how being a reversed high priestess compares to being a normal one. Now, Yuuka does have her secrets, but she's not sharing. She has questions, but no answers to them. She has thoughts, but no way or no knowledge to put them to use. What she does know, you don't know if you'll get the sharp edge of her temper or cold silence. She's brilliantly smart, yes, but she's not using it for good; she's that utterly brilliant scientist who hoards her ideas and scientific projects, the sneaky maiden aunt with dirt on everyone. She's not afraid anymore to use what she knows to put people down; in this, her attitude and fears about hurting people over things come out the most.

Blocked is where being reversed hits Yuuka the most. That instinctual energy, that drive for knowledge, that instinct she had to make decisions(not that she really had any before, common sense 0.5...), is near impossible to recall. There's information in front of her and no drive to learn it. It's like looking at her calculus textbook and seeing nothing but numbers, not seeing the whole problem and what she needs to do. In algebraic equations, she is what you need to solve for X, but half of the equation is missing. There are things that she needs to be whole, there are things that she needs to do, but she can't make a decision because she no longer has the instinct for it. In short, school, although still important, is just a chaotic mess for her.

Upside down, the river of knowledge that runs through the rest of the tarot isn't there anymore. The curtain of shadows that hide her are open, and people can see everything: her mysteries, There is a loss of control ther,e as the pillars that support her delicate balance do not stand up on their own. She is no longer in command of her true emotions, but at a chaotic, imbalanced state. She is confused, and she no longer knows what she is doing, and as such, has lost the most basic certainty of the High Priestess card - that of simple, passive knowledge.

It was brought up to me as well that it might be a good idea to do some sort of time line or show what events have led up to her getting reversed, as well as the changed personality/soft core arcana reasoning. Because this is pretty important, I decided to stick it here on the talk page as well. If there are any questions/comments in general, please page me. :)

  • Risa
    • Risa Chiba is Yuuka's older sister and in her last(next to last?) year of primary medical school before entering her specialty. Risa is well known in the Chiba house for being an older version of Yuuka: brilliant, smart, but she's got the common sense that Yuuka does not, as well as an incredible cool about her.
    • Yuuka has a bit of a sister complex. Risa gave up extra college money to pay for Yuuka's private vocal/flute lessons, money that her parents offered her first. Since then, Yuuka has felt that she needs to live up to her big sister, to repay her back, to be the absolutely best that she can.
    • Because of the age difference, Risa, although Yuuka's best nee-san, they aren't that close. Yuuka never really got to turn to her for school or boyfriend, or really for anything, so there is a gap there. Yuuka's felt she always has to be alone because of this gap.

  • Parents
    • Dad, especially, pressuring Yuuka to be like Risa. This is more and more pronounced(read: worse) since she's gotten older and advanced through school.

  • School
    • This is possibly the biggest breaking point for Yuuka's reversal, since, as a priestess, she is all about the mystery of knowledge.
    • Clubs: In far too many of them. This has been acknowledged by Yuuka several times, however, she's done nothing really about it. Most of the time, she uses them to finish up her homework in relative peace and quiet, as well as enjoying it overall with some extra time with friends. (Like with a certain senpai in Literature/Book Club.) If she dropped these, there would probably be time to do her homework and have a bit of extra time off...
    • Homework: Yuuka does her homework, and does it fast. It's accurate, if not flowery. She does it in school during her free time, during lunch breaks, and during clubs.
    • In General: School used to be something Yuuka excelled at for fun. It eventually turned into something she was pressured to excel at, and now has turned into something Yuuka does, but dislikes with a passion. She's lost all of the love and passion she had for it, and as such, it's something she regards with a curious look. Where it used to be something that made great sense, where it used to answer all her questions, now it's something that gives her more questions. Where her world once was, it's now upside down.

  • Other
    • In terms of personal relationships, Yuuka doesn't have very many. She's very much afraid of getting them hurt and/or losing them; little does she realize hypocritically by threatening to go away and attempting suicide IS hurting them. This is made all the much worse that the knowledge that it is /is not making sense/ to her poor brain.
    • Temper: Yuuka has a bit of a attitude. It's normally squashed and hidden, but lately, it's been coming out to play...
